I'm presenting the third of four monthly workshops on beer styles and evaluations on Wednesday November 7th and Tuesday November 13th at 7 pm at the CHAOS Brew Club's brewhouse. RSVPs are required, follow this link to let me know if you'll be joining us. Both dates will cover the same materials and beers - splitting the group up means more folks can participate and makes each workshop a little smaller and more conducive to conversation, perhaps.
Our focus for this month will be English styles, except for porters and stouts. We will be covering those beers, from around the world, in the fourth workshop in December. The styles we'll be covering in November include Ordinary Bitter, Best Bitter, Strong Bitter, British Golden Ale, , English IPA, Dark Mild, British Brown Ale, English Strong Ale, Old Ale, and English Barleywine. We talk through all the styles, put them into some kind of framework to help folks remember them and see how they are related and compare, then we taste examples of four of the styles. For the first, we taste and then discuss it. For the other three, we taste then spend 10 - 15 minutes filling out the BJCP scoresheet, then participants share what they wrote and we discuss.
While the workshops are aimed at helping folks preparing for the BJCP Beer Evaluation Exam, anyone is welcome. There is no fee for the workshops, attendees will split the actual expense of purchasing the beer. Last month, that was $10/person.
If you are planning on attending, please remember to RSVP here so I have the right amount of beer for the group. If you have any questions or concerns, email me at jim@singingboysbrewing.com
